What's the Difference Between Set Plugs and Working Plugs?
Set thread plug gages are used to set thread ring gages only, while working thread plug gages will check a threaded machined part. A setting plug's purpose is strictly for setting or re-setting a thread ring gage and determining if the thread ring gage is within tolerance. Set thread plug gages are not to be used to check a threaded hole in a work piece / part. To insure a thread ring gage is still within its tolerance, after being put use, a set thread plug gage with a go and no go member can be used to verify the thread ring gages accuracy.
This also provides the thread ring gage user / owner the capability to reset the thread ring gage if it is out of the required tolerance. Generally and we suggest that the set thread plug gage is ordered at the same time as the thread ring gage. We suggest this not only to save you time in the future but there could be a cost savings when ordering them together.
Please remember that a set thread plug gage is needed in the manufacturing and certification of a thread ring gages. Meaning they are matched to each other and meant to be a metal to metal fit. If the thread ring gage and set thread plug gage are not purchased together they most likely will not fit together without re-setting the thread ring gage purchased.
